The essentials
Brazil kick off the tournament at the Maracanã, Rio.
Maracanã — only the third stadium to host both a men's and a women's World Cup final.
Cards are widely accepted; carry a little cash for street food and taxis.
Not Spanish. A few words go a long way — see our phrase list below.
Cool in the south, warm and rainy on the Northeast coast. Pack layers.
Many outlets also take two round pins. Bring a universal adapter.
US, Canadian & Australian fans: you need an e-visa
Brazil ended the visa waiver on April 10, 2025. Apply online only at the official portal, brazil.vfsevisa.com. The fee was US$80.90 as of October 2026, processing can take up to 10 business days, and the portal advises applying about two months before you travel. Fees and rules can change — always check the official site.
Where the women play
Every host city stages at least seven matches and at least one knockout game. The team-by-team fixtures fill in after qualifying and the draw. Book a refundable room now — prices climb once the draw is made.
Portuguese for match day
Brazilians speak Portuguese, not Spanish — and they love it when visitors try.
